I thought skeptics would appreciate this article:

Jesus as the Sun throughout History

"From the earliest times of Christian history, Jesus Christ has been identified with the sun. This fact is readily demonstrated through the study of ancient texts, including the Bible and works of the early Church fathers, as well as Christian traditions, rituals, architecture and artifacts. From a wide variety of sources, it is clear that associating, identifying and equating Christ with the sun began in ancient times and has continued abundantly over the many centuries since then. Includes many primary sources and quotes from credentialed authorities.

It's really just more religious tripe...I can't see it of being of interest to skeptics, it seems to be mainly the domain of the new age faithful who like to blend all religions into one quasi-pagan/hippy thing (nor do I see it as being particularly skepticism in any way). Anyone who's not a religious believer won't care that much and, I'd hope, is already aware of how different cultures feed into each other and evolved out of previous ones.

Uh, that really is about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard Fifi. You should make an effort to actually read the article first. I am a skeptic, I'm non-religious & I'm not any new-age hippy either and the idea of equating Jesus as the sun has historical content to it as the article demonstrates. Most religions were rooted in natural phenomena i.e. the sun, moon, planets, stars, constellations etc. It removes all the supernatural from the equation.

F <<different cultures feed into each other and evolved out of previous ones>>

That is precisely what the author is saying Fifi - Christianity evolved from older Pagan religion with a Jewish mix to it. But, religion is still rooted in astrotheology.

What's ridiculous is you constantly posting about religion here and nothing else, it seems trollish (particularly alongside your rather inane posts about Randi being a pedophile, which showed no skepticism on your part). And, yeah, I've seen the film and know what it's about. What I'm saying is that the only people who'll be surprised by what the film presents are the faithful...who aren't hanging out in skeptics tribes.

Ultimately I'm skeptical of your intentions and if you actually are an atheist/skeptic simply because your posts are all about religion (or whether a well known skeptic and myth buster is a pedophile). But, whatever, this tribe is pretty dead anyway so do your thing but don't expect not to get called on your shit in a skeptics tribe *lol*

Uh, again, sorry Fifi but from my view you've got your head up your arse - you haven't read the article & you don't know what you're talking about on this issue. I was unaware that posting topics that are ***SKEPTICAL*** of religion weren't allowed here.

Fi (or whether a well known skeptic and myth buster is a pedophile)

Straw man that has nothing to do with this thread whatsoever. If you want to have that discussion then post in that thread as it's off topic here.

AFTER you've actually read the entire article & have questions I'll help you understand that the author is clearly skeptical of religion & proves Christianity & many other modern religion to have evolved from ancient Pagan astrotheology rooted in the worship of the sun, moon, planets, stars, constellations etc. Again, it removes all supernatural arguments from religion. And, I would think skeptics & all the variety of Freethinkers would appreciate that.

Whatever, you're dragging this tribe down with your religious obsessions and highly unskeptical reposting of transparent attempts to paint randi as a pedophile so I'll just leave you to your trollish obsessions.

              LOL, ROTFLMAO!

YOU are the troll dragging down the conversation here as you have clearly not even read the article posted and are offering nothing beyond false accusations and straw man arguments.

If you don't like this thread then don't troll in it - nobody is forcing you, twisting your arm making you post here. I offered to help you further understand the original post when you can come up with sincere questions but you're more interested in trolling & hi-jacking the thread off topic.

Fifi <<What's ridiculous is you constantly posting about religion here>>

Yeah, no shit Shurlock *because I'M SKEPTICAL OF RELIGION* and so is the author of the article that you have yet to actually read.

    <<attempts to paint randi as a pedophile>>

Oh please, he has done that himself - and it's in court documents & pedophilia/bestiality is discussed in many of the books by Prometheus i.e. Paul Kurtz. He & CSICOP have pulled quite a few stunts when they first began that many younger so-called "skeptics" know nothing about. So, how skeptical are *YOU* really? If you post about that off-topic issue again in an attempt to derail the thread I'll delete the entire thread & re-post it w/o your nonsensical obsession to rant while in utter ignorance of the topic you rant against. I've already asked to post in its proper thread.
