Can't find much about this. Supposedly the ayurvedic practice of gargling oil for 20-30 min straight does wonderful things for you. I can't find anything online that does an objective review of the practice. Has anyone seen anything on this?

Wed, October 28, 2009 - 9:43 PMWell you know I mod a tribe so that people can talk about peak oil without having Dan also known as Robert Turkel keep having us insist that Peak Oil plainly doesn't exist.

Re: Oil Pulling?
Fri, October 30, 2009 - 7:53 AMWho has the time to spend 40 minutes a day swishing oil around in their mouth? Talk about having nothing interesting to do with one's time and being neurotically obsessed! Anything NOT to think and to focus on oneself apparently. It's yet another symptom of the rampant narcissism of our culture
No doubt anyone who starts this practice is spending a lot more time on dental hygiene than they were before, which is bound to result in....gasp...better dental hygiene. Also, this may have been helpful before the invention of dental floss but, hey, that's not neurotically focusing on how everything that's not right in one's life is due to "toxins" from "out there" that have gotten "into me and are ruining my life". If these people would spend half the time on actually protecting the environment from being polluted that they do on personal narcissism and "removing toxins" that they blame for their own dissatisfaction with their lives, the world would be a better place (but then they would have to look at how their narcissistic lifestyle contributes to all of this and they'd be focusing on other people and not just themselves...which would defy the point of being narcissists...).
Incidentally, I've read that eating cheese increases the good/protective bacteria in the mouth (because the cheese is alkaline so can neutralize acids in the mouth). Oh, and the easiest way to get rid of icky mouth gunk in the morning is to stop smoking and taking five minutes to floss and brush before bed.
A good article from The Guardian that talks about children's teeth but can apply to adults too...

Obviously various Dairy Councils are promoting this as fact when it seems like the studies say cheese *may* help prevent cavities so the usual caveats apply. Still, cheese is a nice way to end a meal :-)
