Re: How to detect a lie?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 8:04 AMI have to work on that eye contact thing. I'm not lying when I drop eye contact during conversations, but it probably looks like I am. -

That was a lie. I saw you bring your arms together and then you tried putting something between our posts(Jez), lol.

But much of "body language" is culturally defined. No? -

Re: How to detect a lie?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 2:17 PMTo an extent, but if you combine the different traits that people do when they lie, cutting out the ones that are more cultural...it's pretty easy to spot a liar. In person, I am, almost, 100% on it. My weakness is when love is involved(Including friendship love), as I have a history of having blinders on with that.
People in general...I can tell you within a short time, the equivalent of what women do with deciding on if a person will be a friend, lover, or given a fake number to call them back at(Has anyone had that happen? Just curious, as I have had friends say they did it, but haven't encountered someone who has been snobbed that way).
However, truthfully, I don't know that I was wrong with the loves that were relationships, as I had the feeling, fought it off(Most of the time) and found out later that I was right. So....I think that knowing body language and voice fluctuations is a good thing when picking friends and lovers in the world off the net.

Wait... there is both serious sampling and confirmation bias here: a lie that is successful (undetected by you) and that you never discover the truth about would never enter your consciousness; in addition, when you find out about a lie later, you can convince yourself that you knew about it ("Yeah, I had that feeling that something was up") at the time.

I know what you are talking about, but...
Nah....I write em down, as I have questions about things.
The funny thing is that I am good about writing down things, but when keeping my own scraps of papers with all my thoughts....they are scattered throughout notebooks, scraps of paper, cardboard, etc. I find out the truths later, of the things I questioned before.
Some things are more immediate, as I am good at getting to the truth of a matter, like one of those lie detectors, but, other times, it isn't as important to me and the truth came to play later, I stumbled across the paper when "spring cleaning" and then do the wow...I was right thing.
What pisses me off the most?
That I feel like I wasted time, denying the truth.
