Re: the real woo woo
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 11:23 AMI agree about the harm caused by nationalism, racism, egotism, sexism and classism. I think that harm is also done by not challenging the woo woo nonsense out there. It is reasonable to be skeptical of government policies, but when some charlatan comes along and says that men never walked on the moon or that the Earth is just a few thousand years old then someone should call them on their BS.
Another harmful "ism" is the one where people judge you by something as meaningless as where the planets were located at the moment of your birth. Like other form of prejudice this notion needs to be challenged.

Re: the real woo woo
Sat, May 10, 2008 - 6:59 AM./!Alex! - Woo is a term that is used to indicate pseudoscience. Any pseudoscience used to support any of the things you mention would be "woo" and certainly woo/pseudoscience *and* religion *and* science have all been used at times to advocate for or decry all the things you mention.
Of course, you could just be trying to stir up shit and promote the same new agey passive/fake love speak as the solution for all the world's ills as you have done before while hiding behind a new name and avatar.

Re: What's the Harm?
Sat, May 10, 2008 - 7:04 AMHummingbird - Thanks for posting the site. Often it's claimed that woo is harmless (and just dismissed as silly but not deadly to anything but a rube's wallet). It's great (in a sad way obviously) that someone's started collating the death count - or at least the deaths that actually make it into the news.
