So what of carrying gemstones around for their alleged properties? Gems for healing? Gems for protection?

I used to use them in meditation. Why do you ask?

MA, do you include yourself when you say "people"?

i have this theory that there are various things in nature that seem inexplicable to the laws and processes that we've had available to us throughout most of our history, and thus have had mystical significance attached to them.

the sun would be one. the moon. stars. fire. lightning. the ocean. life. birth. earthquakes.

i think that gemstones and crystals etc. fall into this category pretty clearly. they are very impressive things aren't they? i love them myself and spend an inordinate time in hippy shops looking at them and buying them. i have a ridiculous amount of them.

I think buying them for a specific energetic purpose like protection or finding your true love/callng/ first name etc is bunk. There is the lovely feeling you get looking at a natural object that seems supernatural in its makeup and holding one and carrying one may give you some kind of connection to that wondrousness that is helpful to you. I just find they weigh me down.

rocks tend to do that. particularly when you're backpacking. i tend to mail them to myself to deal with that issue.
